Yesteryear Collection

For a short while, Atkinson & Co. sold the "Sentinel" steam wagon for the Alley & McLellan company. When the latter took over its own sales program, Atkinson decided to produce its own steam wagons. Their first design was a 6-ton "undertype" with a 2-section boiler shell, vertical boiler containing inclined water tubes, a compound engine and tubular superheater. In 1919, Atkinson began using a Stumpf-type "uniflow" engine which allowed the company to expand its line to include 5 to 8 ton trucks in 1920, and ultimately a 12 ton vehicle in 1923. At this point, Atkinson was offering the largest wagons in Britain, and they could handle any load in logging sites or city streets. In 1925, the company merged with Walker Waggons Ltd. In one guise or another, the company lasted until 1970.
The Atkinson Logger will endure for future generations in the beauty of a precision-engineered die-cast model.
